1st Christmas!

What a great couple of days we've had!

Our Christmas celebrations began last night, (Christmas Eve) with our now traditional meal at Benihana! This is the 4th time we've done it, (I think), and it was a great time. Sweetpea enjoyed eating her rice and egg, and even some of the zucchini, and as always she took advantage of the great people watching opportunity. We sat with a very nice family, with three daughters.

After Benihana we went to my Nan and Grandpa's to chat and hang out a bit. We passed on our 2009 Benihana desk calendar to my Grandpa while we were there. There was more food, desserts, and tea and wine. Sweetpea opened her first Christmas present, from Nan and Grandpa, and spent most of the rest of the night playing with it there! We also read "The Night Before Christmas" with her. I picked up a beautiful copy, illustrated by Mary Englebright - I could look at it for hours, it's got so many details. Sweetpea seemed to like it as well, and hopefully it will continue to be interesting to her throughout the years.

This morning the three of us started off the holiday by (first making coffee and then) opening our presents to each other, and those from my DH's family in Austin. Sweetpea got so many beautiful and fun new things! Here she is "opening", (I did most of the work) her first present on Christmas morning! I think she could have stopped here and she would have been content, but there was much more to go. She received some beautiful books, a cute rubber ducky (that went straight into her mouth!), and some very cool toys that should keep her going for a long time. Here's a picture with her new best friend, who I think we'll call Leo, (I know, not too creative, but it was early in the morning... if you've got a better idea, let me know and I'll take it into consideration!)

We took a few breaks in opening all the presents for coffee refills and to hang back and enjoy what we'd already opened. Sweetpea needed some down time from all the excitement, so we read a book and played with some of her new toys.

DH got me a beautiful, large stainless steel pan... just like the kind I've been drooling over in all the cooking shows. I'm very excited, and used it to cook some of breakfast this morning when my parents came over. Anyway, that's what we did next. I made a (undercooked) baked french toast, with sausage, chocolate crescent rolls, and fruit salad, (which my mom brought). We had some more coffee, and mimosas, and opened a few more presents with the grandparents. And then it was naptime for the busy little baby, and crunch time for the busy parents.

We got ourselves cleaned up and worked to make some stuffed mushrooms to take to the Italian themed dinner at my Aunt's house. Here are just a few of the folks who were there!!

We had a very nice time, talking and opening more presents. Here's Sweetpea surrounded by some of her gifts! I feel like I can almost see a glimpse of what she might look like grown up here. The first thing she opened was a stacking toy that kept her engaged through most of the afternoon. She got so many beautiful things... this kid has more family that loves her than anyone I've ever known!! What a lucky girl she is... she will probably never fully understand how blessed she is!!

And of course, she's beautiful too!! Here she is modeling a couple of her new clothes.

After presents we sat down for dinner. We did Christmas crackers, so we were all royalty for the meal, wearing our paper crowns. I love that tradition... the jokes in these crackers were very cute, and the prizes were a bit nicer than normal... I got a shoe horn! Woo hoo! Sweetpea got her own special crown made from the cracker ends... it fit her well, and she wore it through the whole meal!

Of course, she loved the attention she got sitting at the end of the table. She ate a nice big meal of sweet potatoes, and washed it down with some bread and pasta from my plate.

Here she is sitting with her grandma after eating. We stayed a while after dinner for dessert and tea, and of course some games; guitar hero, pool, and a number of rounds (who's counting?) of Catch Phrase. Sweetpea conked out on my lap in the middle of the game. She was holding on as long as possible so she wouldn't miss a thing, but she couldn't hold out any longer. She'd only had two little naps all day. But she was such a good girl all day.

When she woke up, it was pretty much time for us to get her home. She slept in the car on the way home, and went straight to bed from the carseat. It was a very busy Christmas, but I think we all scratched just about as much excitement out of it as possible!

I hope your Christmas was as full of fun, food, family, and love as ours was!!

Story Time at the book store!

Who knew there were so many free story times around?! I'm going to go to this all the time... it was so fun! And there were free snacks afterwards... for the kids... but Sweetpea didn't want hers so I ate it!

I think she was the littlest kid there, but she was so good... she watched the nice lady read the lost mitten story, (was that what it was called? I wasn't paying attention she was just being too cute to resist!) And when other kids who couldn't sit still got in between her and the book, she tried to look around them to see!! What a good girl!!
After the story there were songs with rattles and hand gestures, and after the songs there were bubbles! It was all very engaging and kept her attention the whole time.
I'd probably go back for the hot cocoa and whipped cream alone!

Thursday Evenings

Every Thursday evening, after I pick up Sweetpea from daycare, we stop b ye my Nan and Grandpa's and have a nice dinner and a chat. And of course, last but not least, a nice cuppa tea!!

I'm so glad that we live so close, and Sweetpea is able to spend so much time with my awesome family! Even now, as we speak, she's busy chewing on Nan's gold chain. What a lucky kid!!

No pictures for this post, maybe next time! :)

Getting Stuff Done

I can't say that I'm all that motivated to get stuff done around the house... I really enjoy playing, reading, bathing, napping, etc. with my Sweetpea, and I'm the first to admit that my house suffers for it!
But when I do want to take care of business, in the kitchen at least, I have a system in place that seems to do the trick; I've reorganized my island cupboard so that everything on the first two shelves is essentially baby safe, and by that I really just mean not breakable or spillable. Sweetpea loves to take everything off the shelves. She'll sit here for a half an hour or more as long as I keep refilling the shelves every once in a while.

Now if only I had a cupboard like this in every room!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It was a very Christmasy weekend.

Yesterday, though the weather was beautiful, it really started to feel like Christmas is on its way.

We started out the day with one of my favorite Holiday traditions: Waiting in line for our KBCO Studio C cd. We got there at 10:00am and found line was moving pretty quick - even though the line was wrapped around the building. We got out of there by 11:30 with our discs in hand. This year was the 20th Anniversary of KBCO's studio C so, it was a special 2 disc volume. I'm only missing 5 or 6 discs out of the 20. I think SweetPea enjoyed their time in line, people watching and getting some fresh air. We did miss Berlin, as he was our usual company for the event.

Last night we continued in the Christmas spirit by getting out all of our decorations and putting up our tree. SweetPea likes the tree, but not as much as Chewy, who is glad to have another comfy spot to lay.
Sweetpea did enjoy the beads. Check out her military crawl.

This morning, I volunteered with the Humane Society for their annual Photos with Santa. I loved seeing everyone dressed up for their Holiday card pictures.

SweetPea and her dad met me for lunch at our favorite burger joint, The Mountain Sun, on Pearl Street. We enjoyed the very unseasonable weather walking on the mall and got coffees from the bookstore coffee shop. Unfortunately, we forgot our camera.

It was an all together perfect weekend except on our way home from Pearl St., something happened to the clutch of our care. Luckily, we were close enough to my car to get that, and get the other car to the Subaru dealership. We'll find out what's wrong with in tomorrow.
For those of you who were persistant enough to read this post till the end, here's another video of Sweetpea chasing after her favorite would-be toy: Chewy! When she can really crawl, he's going to be in trouble... or maybe she will!

Keeping Her Busy

Our little angel is getting very mobile. She's always happy in our arms, or when we let her stand or help her walk.

But we can't do that all the time can we!?

So far we've been lucky with how good she is in the grocery cart and in resteraunts...
And if we give her curiosity an outlet, we can sometimes buy some time...

Tomorrow should be interesting... we're flying to Austin, just a couple hours before her bedtime... right at her crankiest!! And I don't think the plane will be quite as empty as it was on our first plane ride in August!!

Wish us luck!!

And Happy Thanksgiving!!

Wave Bye-Bye

Well, I don't have a picture, but Sweetpea waved goodbye for the first time today!

I know, it doesn't seem like much, but it was such a perfect little wave, with her hand up, and her little hand opening and closing... it just couldn't be mistaken for anything else!

We were visiting our neighbors who have a new baby, and when we went to leave, I told her to wave bye-bye to the baby, (who she'd been watching since we arrived). So I waved, and then Sweetpea's little hand went up and she did too!

Well, anyway, I just couldn't be prouder!

And since I don't have a picture, I'll just post one of the cat, in the "outfit" I got him off the Halloween clearance rack at Target. Why else does one have a blog if not to share pictures like this!?

Kitty Friend

Sweetpea really likes Chewy.

She is fascinated by him.

When she's crawling, he's going to have to watch out.

Right now he's just aloof... most of the time. Sometimes he just can't stay away.

And he's just not one to turn down a cuddle-buddy.

It was really cute when she started to wake up... she reached down and scatched his head, just like he likes it.

Just luck, I know, but I think she's starting to grow on him.

Hiking means something different now...

We have a B.O.B. stroller, so we can go off-roading, to an extent, but Sweetpea still isn't too into the stroller... once she gets bigger, she'll probably like it better... Here's a picture of her and her dad heading up the "mountain" behind some houses on Dartmouth street in Boulder.
We did get to see some nature though, so that was exciting!!
And once we got to the "top" we all had some lunch.
It was actually pretty picturesque.
The flatirons make every picture look nice.

First Swim Lesson

She took to the water like a fish! Sorta. Well... she liked it at least... when there was something to chew on.

And she had a nice nap afterwards!

Whatever happens to all those old trees....

Who knew a visit to a local sawmill could be so entertaining!!

My mom (and baby) and I were heading to a local coffee shop when we saw a sign for a "wood fair" at a local wood recycling mill. So of course we had to stop!!

They had beautiful wooden art pieces on display, and craftsmen building furniture. We walked around the property and checked out all the trees they had sectioned. It was really cool. Made me want to build something! I'm sure I could use a new coffee table, or a couple of benches!! If only my house were bigger! Here are some spare bandsaw blades!!

And here we are standing in front of a bunch of trees all sliced down the center!!

I ended up coming home with 5 cross sections of a small cottonwood tree for stepping stones in my front garden. These were cut fresh to order.

I'll have to partially bury them eventually so they're flush with the ground, but I think they'll be perfect for the spot!
I'm so glad we stopped!! Next I just need a little bench for the end of my path.

Happy Halloween!!

We had a very nice Halloween... Sweetpea enjoyed her first Halloween party, and about 3/4 of Ghostbusters.

I enjoyed way too much chocolate!!

First Election!

Yesterday Sweetpea and I went to the polls to cast our votes!! There were lots of interesting issues on the ballots.... it's crazy what people try and sneak with all sorts of misleading language... I guess we'll see what happens on Tuesday... should be an interesting day!!

Laughing at Chewy

Sweetpea has been interested in Chewy for a while now, but this is the first time she's laughed at him!! It started last night when we tossed a candy corn across the floor for chewy to chase... he slid and ran, and Sweetpea thought it was hilarious!! So we got out the feather, and a bit belatedly, the camera, and took this short video before the cat got sick of playing.

Shoes, Naps, Dogs, and Hair

Okay... I know that's a lot of topics to cover in one post, but since I've been slacking off, I figure I shouldn't wait to post these cute pictures!!

Sweetpea got her first pair of everyday shoes this week!! Here she is standing all by herself (briefly) in them!! She's worn shoes before, but these ones actually stay on. It's getting colder here and it just seemed like socks weren't going to cut it for the Fall.

She's been taking shorter and shorter naps lately... but I guess sometimes that lack of sleep just catches up with her! Here she is totally zonked right in the middle of some tummy time.

The same day, must have been Monday, my dad came over and we went for a walk with his dogs around the lake right by our house. Sweetpea is as fascinated with the dogs as she is with the cat! They provide endless entertainment!

And one more pic... I almost made a separate post just for some of these bath time pics!! Her hair is getting so long.... well, some of her hairs!! And I don't think we could ever be accused of starving the child!! I love her stout little body!

Okay, that's all for now!! Tomorrow I'm hosting a Halloween themed baby shower for Amy, and Sweetpea will be dressing up in her costume!! I'll post some pictures of that soon!!

Pumpkin Shopping

Do you have these gigantic pumpkin patches where you live?! This one is huge - pumpkins as far as the eye can see! Biggest pumpkin patch in Colorado, measuring over 100 acres!! Sweatpea thought the pumpkins were very interesting... She also got to wear her new pumpkin hat I knitted for her last weekend. It needs a wash though... I think it was itchy... even though it's mostly cashmere!! Lucky kid.

Here she is looking cute with her dad. He's actually busy carving the last of the pumpkins right now!! I'll post pictures of our jack o' lanterns another time!!

Our Budding Artiste!

So at daycare they finger paint in the infant room... I asked the teachers what this consits of, and they said it's mostly a sensory excersise for the babies. They feel the paints, and the teachers move the paper under their little hands.

I've seen Sweetpea's works on the wall... there's a lovely joint effort piece with her footprints across it in orange. Like fall leaves.

Here's her most recent work.

Our Days are Numbered

Our nice days that is... I just wanted to post this cute picture from Wednesday morning... Sweatpea's dad took her for a walk to our local lake... it's much colder today. And overcast.... Fall is here for sure.

Tasty Treat

Yumm.... Sweet Potatoes! These sure went down easy...

But were they as good as this!!?
