Mt. Sanitas - or why you shouldn't trust the weatherman

My friend Julie lent us a terrific baby backpack carrier, so now, just in time for Spring, we can finally go hiking again!!

My friend Nupur and I had planned to hit the trails since last week, but were getting discouraged by the cold and snow in the forecast for Tuesday.

In the morning, I went and taught yoga at 6am, and thought it wasn't too cold out even then, so figured that if we got out early enough, we would miss the cold and wind and snow that was predicted for the day.

So we set out.
Here's the motley crew with babies in tow.

Aanya is an old hand at this hiking gig... she was strapped last summer for hikes, and this winter for show shoeing.  Makes me feel like a real slug!!  Note Ozzie the dog in the background.  He was very patient with our many stops, (we always used picture taking as our excuse).

Natalie seems to really like her carrier...

She cried the first time we took her out of it but I think she felt a bit differently about coming out of it after over an hour of hiking.   But she didn't protest getting back in after some play time so I think we're pretty well set to use it all Summer.  Woo hoo!

We stopped about 3/4 of the way up for lunch.  We were glad we didn't wait for the summit because it was mostly jagged rocks and we weren't really able to set the girls down once we got there for fear they'd crawl , (or walk in Aanya's case) off the edge!

The girls enjoyed playing in some very dirty dirt when we stopped... Nat's pants were brown instead of blue.
At the top!  Natalie woke up just in time for this picture.  We weren't sure we could make it... Those extra 20 lbs are quite a load when you haven't been hiking in a while!!  We've vowed to hike at least once a week so we can get back in shape not to mention get some fresh air and remind ourselves there's more to life than laundry!

And Aanya conked out on the way down...

We stopped for a bit of play time at Grand Rabbits in Boulder.  I'm sure stores like this love to see people like us coming in to play with all their toys and then leave without buying anything!  We figure this makes way more sense financially than a membership to Gymboree!!

Maybe we'll buy something there the next time we stop in after a hiking trip!

That looks like so much fun (the hiking, although the toy store looks fun too ;)). Glad you got it in before the snow came!
